During Tuesday night’s Board of Commissioners meeting (4-10-18):
The Town of Benson received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).
“For (Benson’s) comprehensive annual financial report…this certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” a press release accompanying the award states.
On Tuesday night, Jeff McCauley with the GFOA presented the award to Benson’s Finance Director Kim Pickett.
“This is a prestigious accomplishment,” he said. “Benson had to complete a 48-page checklist, well beyond the generally accepted accounting principles, to achieve this.”
“This award also reflects the accomplishment of (Benson) Town Manager Matt Zapp, (Finance Director) Kim Pickett, the Board of Commissioners, and all town staff. This took numerous hours of hard work,” explained Mr. McCauley.
“I hope others see this and follow your example. Thank you for all that you do.”
