BENSON ROBBERY SUSPECT IN CUSTODYArrested in South Carolina, extradition to Johnston County is pending. UPDATE 4-9-19After learning that Robbery suspect Ronnie Hiram Wessinger Jr., had been released from WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, the Benson Police Department used multiple resources to attempt to locate him. Mr. Wessinger, 46, of 123 Rita Street in Gaffney, South Carolina, was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh on April 2 following an attempted armed robbery at PNC Bank in Benson at 400 South Wall Street. He was shot twice during the incident. Requests for assistance were made and descriptions provided to local, State of North Carolina, State of South Carolina, and federal law enforcement agencies. As a result of these efforts, Mr. Wessinger was located in Greenville, South Carolina, at approximately 8:35pm this evening (4-9-19), and was taken into custody. Mr. Wessinger is facing charges of Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Second Degree Kidnapping, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He will be held at the Greenville County, SC, Detention Center, pending his extradition back to Johnston County. No additional details are available at this time.
