Maintenance Worker
The Town of Benson Waste Water Treatment Plant has an immediate opening for the position of Maintenance Worker. Applicant must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Some mechanical ability to assist in equipment repair preferred. Drug Test and Background check required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works involves considerable bending, climbing, walking, lifting, and light to heavy physical activity; exposure to all types of weather; some personal safety hazards involved in work. EDUCATION: The ability to read manuals, and gauges, and keep records is required; Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in mechanical or plumbing trades, and mechanical maintenance experience including pump/ valve repair; and a Grade 1 NC Water Pollution Control System Operator Certification and a minimum of one year experience in a wastewater treatment plant in maintenance. DUTIES: Performs general maintenance and inspection of treatment plant buildings and lift stations, services equipment, loads and unloads supplies and materials. Performs various landscaping and grounds maintenance duties. Cleans and maintains work areas and equipment including mechanical and electrical equipment. Performs other duties as required, some team work needed. Performs some treatment process operations and light janitorial work.. Hours are 8 to 5 Monday thru Friday will require working some nights, weekends, and holidays. EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Various hand tools, lawn maintenance equipment, and other specific equipment associated with area of a waste water treatment plant. Salary range will be $25,857 to 38,786 commensurate with experience and abilities plus all town benefits including, vacation, sick leave, holidays, 401k plan, retirement and paid individual insurance.
