The intersection at S. Dunn St. and E. Parrish Drive (at McDonald’s) will become a 4-way stop this week. Public Works will install the additional stop signs at the intersection on Friday (2-9-24). Please be aware of this change as you drive through Benson.
The update to the intersection was approved by Benson Commissioners during their second regular meeting in January.
WHAT ABOUT THE ROUNDABOUT?
The closure of the intersection at Main Street (NC50) and Wall Street (US301) for the construction of the roundabout is now set for Monday (2-12-24) weather permitting.
Availability of detour signage for the project pushed back the start date. NCDOT contractors have begun to stage equipment in the area.
Once fully closed, the work on the roundabout is expected to take 60 days. Detour signage will assist motorists in navigating around the work zone will be installed. Local traffic will be directed onto Parrish and Church. Commercial truck traffic will be directed onto NC27, NC50, NC242, I-40 and I-95.

Some portion of downtown parking will be affected at Benton Square and NAPA, however the remainder of downtown parking will still be useable during the intersection closure. All Main Street businesses will remain easily accessible using Parrish and Church streets.
We will post additional updates and reminders on the roundabout work as necessary.
